Healthcare Spending Card¹ Fees Overview

The Healthcare Spending Card¹ can be a convenient way to pay for qualified healthcare expenses with no annual fees² or credit checks.

In addition, there are no origination or periodic finance fees² for paying for qualified hospital bills over 12 months.

If you use your card¹ for another qualified healthcare expense and choose to repay in full or in 4 monthly installments, there are no origination or periodic finance fees². If you use your card¹ for another qualified healthcare expense and repay over 12 months (the default option), the below fees will be assessed:

  • A 5% Origination fee
  • Periodic Finance fees, which are charged four times over the 12 months and get smaller as you pay back your loan¹. See fee details below:
Average Advance¹ balance over prior 75 days Periodic Finance Fee for qualified hospital expenses Periodic Finance Fee for non-hospital expenses
$1 to $100 $0 $2
$101-$250 $0 $5
$251 to $500 $0 $10
$501 to $1,000 $0 $20
$1,001 to $2,500 $0 $40
$2,501 to $5,000 $0 $75
$5,000+ $0 $95

Note: No periodic finance fees are charged on New Advances that are $10 or less.

Advance¹ minimum payments (including Origination and Periodic Finance fees) can be repaid with pre-tax funds for employees who have linked their personal HSAs³. If an employee repays early before a Periodic Finance fee is due, they don’t have to pay that fee. If applicable, there is up to a $30 late fee.

For a $500 Advance¹ for a qualified non-hospital healthcare expense, an employee's total repayment (including fees) would be $560. But since repayment is divided into 26 installments over 12 months, the employee would pay a $25 Origination fee, followed by 25 installments of $21.40. Those 25 installments of $21.40 include 4 Periodic Finance fees of $10, $10, $10, and $5. These smaller repayments can help make healthcare bills more manageable.

¹ The Healthcare Spending Card and the line of credit are issued by WebBank. Card must be activated before funds can be accessed.
² Each Advance is repaid on a 12-month term (with a minimum $3 due each payment period). Transactions other than qualified hospital expenses (based on merchant category code) will be charged an origination fee of 5% and periodic finance fees. The location of the service provider is not determinative of whether a transaction is a hospital expense. Rather, transactions made within or at a hospital (including but not limited to specialists, doctors, pharmacies, etcetera) are determined to be eligible by the associated MCC and not the location of the service provider in the hospital. New Advances, if eligible, can be repaid in full or over 4 installments with no origination or periodic finance fees. Late fees apply.
³ HSAs that are linked during application must be owned and in the name of the applicant and issued by the applicant's employer.
